Clinical study of facial nerve paralysis hrough electro - acupunctre treatment

Abstract
Aim : Peripheral facial nerve paralysis is a pain clinical disease that occurs by various causes, and in most cases, is found unilaterally on facial expression muscles. Patients are most likely to suffer from the aftereffects, or recurrent paralysis, unless they are given early treatment. This study was performed to prove in clinical detail the records of good results which have been obtained in our clinic using electro-acupuncture for the treatment of the disease, while most of the other studies have dealt with sticking of the needle treatment.
Method : The following results have been obtained after examining 50 patients with facial paralysis who were hospitalized, and treated through the time period of May 1st, 1998 to April 30th, 1999 at the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion of Kumi Oriental Medicine affiliated with Kyung San University. During the examination, those 50 patients were divided into 2 groups, and group A was treated with electro-acupuncture, and group B given the sticking of the needle treatment.
Results : The treatment outcome according to age, paralyzed part, and period of treatment showed excellent results for group A of the patients who were treated with electro-acupuncture, compared with group B given the sticking of the needle treatment.
Conclusion : As the study has shown above, the researcher concludes that better results can be obtained with electro-acupuncture treatment in handling peripheral facial nerve paralysis.
